Current Status: Government Shutdown and Recovery

As a government employee, Mom is a government employee impacted by the shutdown. For the first few weeks of the shutdown, she was furloughed (not working and not getting paid). We used that time to explore North Cascades National Park and catch up on our Netflix cue.

Starting this week, Mom is on “excepted” status. This means she has to work on a specific matter that has been excepted from the shutdown, but still does not get paid. We were fortunate to have a few weeks of furlough. Many government employees have been working without pay for all of October.

On October 22nd, I took advantage of an unlatched door and escaped the RV for an overnight adventure. I ate something I shouldn’t have that got stuck in my tummy and I had to have surgery. The surgery went well and I am recovering quite nicely.

These circumstances have led us to be in Bellingham, WA for the week so we are close to the vet in case of complications in my recovery and Mom can work.

The upside to not moving around is Mom can catch up on blog posts and share all about our adventures so far. Stay tuned for pics, stories, tips, and lessons learned from our first months on the road.
