Rialto Beach Take 2

During our first outing to Rialto Beach on Friday, November 7th was during a “King Tide”: even low tide was quite high. We had another beautiful day for Veterans Day on November 11th and took advantage of a late morning low tide to do some hiking on the beach.

Check out how different the beach looked from the same spot at the same time, just 4 days later:

Nala much preferred the smaller (though still nothing to sneeze at), quieter waves and we had a nice walk on the beach (though walking on loose stones is definitely more of a workout).

Dogs are only allowed on the first half mile of the beach, so Nala enjoyed a yummy chicken foot in the car while I continued on to Hole in the Wall. Can you see it yet? (Hint: look right in the center of the photo at the base of the large triangular stone)

Can you see it now?

Even at low tide, it took a little fancy footwork to scale the base of the rocks to get to the Hole in the Wall. (Mom, you may not want to look at this part 😉)

The views from the hole are definitely worth the rocky walk down the beach and scamper across the rock.

I also got some great pics with the Hole.

There were tide pools full of anemone and clams at the base as well.

If you get a chance, this 3 mile round trip hike takes about an hour and half and is worth the trip. Make sure to check the tide charts though!
